Police open day a huge success!
The first ever Bridgend Police Station open day has been hailed a huge success with up to 2,000 people attending the event.
The family fun day held today (Sunday, July 4) was organised by South Wales Police in partnership with other community organisations.
Gates at the Brackla Street Police Station opened at 11.00am for the free five-hour event which included music from Bridge FM, specialist police and crime prevention stalls, the Fire Service and the Royal Navy.
Local officers were on hand to show how crimes are solved using fingerprint technology while the police cells, police dogs and horses, vehicles and museum stand also proved big attractions.
Detective Chief Inspector Marc Lamerton, who co-ordinated the event, said: “It was a great opportunity for people to meet their local officers in an informal way and it highlighted that South Wales Police are very much part of the local community.
“I am delighted that the good people of Bridgend, and further afield, had the opportunity to enjoy a day with us and I hope it reassured them about the commitment of South Wales Police, and the PACT process, to improve their quality of life and how hard we are working for them.
“We could not have organised this event without the help of our partners within Safer Bridgend and I am truly grateful to all those who helped make the day such a tremendous success.”
