Police have followed up on a PACT priority in Llangeinor after community consultation showed that residents were unhappy about illegal parking taking place on Llangeinor Road.

PC Jeff Sollis and PCSO Amy Baker of the Llangeinor and Bettws Neighbourhood Policing Team held Operation Evolution after residents said cars were repeatedly parking on double yellow lines by the speed camera outside Tyn Yr Heol Primary School as parents dropped off and picked up their children. As a result, school opening and closing times were particularly difficult for motorists and pedestrians using the road.

In response, officers hailed the issue a PACT priority and held Operation Evolution from 8.30am - 9.00am and 15:00pm – 15:30pm on June 4th, 10th, and 11th.

Officers conducted high visibility patrols and informed parents of safe places to park in the area, and encouragingly, no cars were caught parking illegally during the course of the operation.

Prior to the targeted patrols, PCSO Amy Baker prepared a letter to be sent to all parents and guardians of pupils at Tyn Yr Heol Primary warning them of the parking issue.

PCSO Baker said: “Double yellow lines are put in place to ensure the safety of motorists and other road users as well as pedestrians, and it’s really encouraging that not one car was spotted parking illegally on Llangeinor Road during the operation. Now that parents have received letters highlighting the problem and the dangers, we hope the illegal parking will stop. High visibility patrols will continue, however, to maintain the children’s safety and to check the problem doesn’t start again. We will be around to issue tickets if need be.”

Mr Martin Griffiths, Head-teacher at Tyn Yr Heol Primary said: “We appreciate that parking in the area can be difficult for parents as the school doesn’t have a dedicated car park, but it’s important to put the safety of the children and other pedestrians and road users first. The police operation has been a great help in tackling the problem and we hope parents will now continue their efforts to park in safer areas.”
