The Garw Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team has held a Sports Day, at the Garw Valley Leisure Centre, with competing squads from Betws, Cwmgarw, and BlaengarwJuniorSchools.
The schools played against each other in 5 sports, with 4 points available for the winner, and 2 points for the runner up. The points were then accumulated from the 5 sports to decide the winner.
Blaengarw won the 5 a-side football, tag rugby, and basketball. Betws won the volleyball, and Cwmgarw won the relay race.
BlaengarwJuniorSchool were crowned the Police Sports Day Champions with a total of 14 points, with their team consisting of Geraint Gillet, Iuean Evans, Kori Evans, Daniel Evans, Dylan Phillips, and Ben Garfield.
In a close battle for the runner up spot, Betws had 10 points, and Cwmgarw had 8 points.
PCSO Dave Wilkinson stated “The Neighbourhood Policing Team are always looking for new ways to engage with young persons throughout the Garw Valley with their involvement in community enhancing operations, youth club provision, close links with schools, and in this instance the first Garw Valley Police Sports Day. It was great to see over 30 young persons take part in a range of sporting events with a focus on teamwork and fair play.”
PCSO Dave Wilkinson continues “Congratulations to all the pupils who took part in the sports day. Community events like this are lots of fun, and they make the Neighbourhood Policing Team even more accessible to our younger community members.”
