Neighbourhood Police Officers from Porthcawl were caught up in a tug of war when they answered a call to investigate suspicious behaviour at the Sandy Bay area of the seaside town.
Sergeant Mike Davies and PC Neville Evans were responding to reports that people were trying to remove the boulders that surround the former caravan park and attempting to gain entry to the site illegally.
Sergeant Davies and PC Evans rushed to the scene as it was classified as a Grade One immediate response.
However, when they arrived it was clear that there was no-one trying to gain entry to the area at all. It was a local Asian tug-of-war team which was practicing on one of the boulders for their Asian festival in Swansea the following week. The boulders were the only things they could find which were heavy enough to resist their supreme strength!
Porthcawl neighbourhood Inspector Alan James said: “When our officers are called to attend an emergency situation they have to be prepared to deal with any number of difficult and unusual situations. This certainly was an unusual incident and I am pleased that they were able to offer some weighty advice.”
