Pencoed crime prevention surgery a success
As part of the forthcoming Not in My Neighbourhood Week the Neighbourhood Policing Team for Pencoed has run its second crime prevention day in the town in recent weeks.
It was decided to run the event today (Tuesday 27 October), a week ahead of the national campaign in order to take advantage of the autumn half term holiday when many of Pencoed’s young people would be able to come along and learn about crime prevention issues.
PC Sam Beaumont and her colleagues PCSOs Lauren Dillon and Meurig Coleman have been planning the event for several weeks and it is planned to repeat the exercise every six weeks or so.
The crime prevention van was parked in a prominent position in the centre of the town and attracted scores of visitors during the day who were provided with a range of advice and information covering a range of crime prevention topics from personal security to keeping their homes and vehicles secure.
As well as general crime prevention issues members of South Wales Police’s Armed Response Team, also attended and were able to talk to young people about the dangers of illegal and negligent use of air rifles.
PC Beaumont said: “We were very pleased to welcome so many people to our stand; we were able to provide information on keeping homes secure and supply a range of useful leaflets to members of the public.
“There has also been a problem caused by the irresponsible use of air rifles in the area and member of the Armed Response Team were able to explain the dangers involved in this to lots of young people who came along to meet us.
“We will be running similar events on regular basis in Pencoed and hope to meet as many members of our community as possible in the weeks and months ahead.”
