Operation Cabin targetting the inconsiderate and illegal use of off-road vehicles.
Members of the Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Team have carried out an operation which targeted anti social motorists who take their vehicles off road on the hills and forest tracks around Pontycymmer and Caerau.
Under the name of Operation Cabin a successful exercise was run over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 20th – 21st March.
Maesteg Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Evans said: “It was a very successful operation. Four Section 59 warning for off road driving and four Anti Social Behaviour referrals were submitted.
“We maintained a high visibility presence, throughout the Caerau valley through to Pontycymmer and several members of the public were spoken to in relation to the operation, which was welcomed by them. We will continue to address the problems caused by the inconsiderate and illegal use of off-road vehicles.
“Local residents have expressed their concerns about people causing anti social behaviour and driving dangerously on motorcycles and other off-road vehicles and we encourage people always to report any incidents.
"Motorcycles may not be used on public roads unless they are suitably roadworthy, taxed, insured and registered with a licensed rider. Approved crash helmets should be worn unless the rider is exempted. Bikes cannot be used on a public footpath. Neither should they be used in a way that causes alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.
"If those riding the bikes are found to be doing so without complying with these requirements and are doing so inappropriately, then the police have powers to confiscate and possibly scrap the bike.”
