Maesteg Alley Gates a big success
In February 2010 gates were installed in a problematic lane In Maesteg to improve the quality of life for local residents in the prevention of crime, disorder and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).
Looking at the reported data from the erection of the gates until August there has been a 50 per cent reduction in crime and ASB compared to the same timeframe last year. The most significant reduction is linked to non crime incidents such as youth annoyance.
Safer Bridgend has passed out questionnaires to local residents with very positive feedback received, with one local resident saying “No more bricks through the window and no more youths jumping over the wall, or urinating, or worse at 2 o’clock in the morning outside our window.’’ Another said ‘’the gates have made a huge improvement at the rear of my house, no noise, no litter and no fights.’’
Local Councillor Mal Reeves stated ‘These gates have significantly reduced the crime and nuisance that was present in this area before this measure was taken. It has shown that our hard work has paid off.’
Safer Bridgend are working with the public and partners to reduce crime and disorder within the borough and target problematic areas such as this one to benefit communities.
