Two graffiti vandals from Bridgend have been arrested as officers clamp down on graffiti in the community.
The two men, aged 22 and 23 years, were caught with graffiti stencils and spray cans on Park Street in the early hours of Tuesday 17th January. They were arrested under the charge of going equipped to cause criminal damage.
The arrests follow a step-up in police activity, including an increase in patrols within hotspot areas, to tackle the criminal offence of graffiti.
Officers have also been focusing their activities on the Pencoed area, where they are keen to trace the persons responsible for another recent spate of graffiti.
Vandals targeted various buildings in the village, including Pencoed Swimming Pool and the New Surgery earlier this month.
The graffiti tags ‘PK’ and “ZIMER’ were used in locations across Pencoed.
Bridgend Sector Inspector Paul Tinkler said: “Graffiti is a form of criminal damage. It can affect people’s quality of life, increase the fear of crime and reduce pride in a community.
“It also costs the local authority a great deal of money each year to clean up – money which could be better spent on other valuable services.”
“We will deal firmly with anyone caught committing this offence and continue to work with our communities to identify those responsible.”
If you witness any acts of graffiti or have any information, contact Bridgend Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
