Sport hits the streets in rugby league festival

Youngsters took to the streets to compete in the boroughs second street rugby league festival of 2010. After the resounding success of the first tournament where 60 children from Caerau, Nantymoel, Sarn and Wildmill take part, teams once again made the trip to the Waterton ground in hope of being crowned champions.

Thomas wins Safer Bridgend car crime competition

There were smiles all round when 8 year old Thomas Hutt from Brackla was presented with 1st prize for winning the Car Crime Competition held on Central West Police Open Day on 4th July. Thomas was successful in identifying the 10 factors which made the car, a Mitsubishi Colt kindly donated by Nathaniels for the day, appealing to the passing thief.

Operation phoenix comes to Maesteg

Operation Phoenix is the name given to the Safer Bridgend partnership initiative from South Wales Fire and Rescue service to reduce arson related behaviour across Bridgend and offers an opportunity for young people to learn about arson and the consequences of fire setting, hoax calls, fire safety in their homes and how it can affect them and their families.

Over 50’s are safer from burglary in Bridgend

Crimes against older people are particularly distasteful, but fortunately in Bridgend, those aged 50 years and over are less at risk of burglary than other age groups.


Newer cars are less likely to be stolen

Vehicle crime is decreasing and technology has ensured that modern cars have never been more secure. In addition, all cars manufactured before October 1998 are fitted with electronic immobilisers. Theft of a new car is now almost impossible without first obtaining the keys.

Farm watch - fighting crime in the rural communities of the Ogmore Valley

Police in The Ogmore Valley are forging closer links with their rural communities.

Neighbourhood Officers have launched a Farm Watch - a partnership lead initiative - which will foster improved relations between the police and agricultural landowners and farmers to fight rural crime throughout the Ogmore Valley.

Operation 14000 nets 36 criminals in day of action

A total 36 arrests were made across Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan on Monday in the first day of a four day operation running across every division of South Wales Police.


Almost 14,000 less victims of crime in South Wales

Crime figures for 2009/2010 released by the Home Office today, reveal that crime in the South Wales Police area has fallen by 11.8% compared to 2008/2009. This equates to 38 less victims of crime per day, on average and places the Force as the 8th most improved in Wales and England for reducing crime.

The first ever Bridgend Police Station open day has been hailed a huge success with up to 2,000 people attending the event.

Over the last seven months the small recess area at the end of the lane that gives access to the rugby field at the top of Pen Y Fai Road has become a hotspot for anti social behaviour i.e. fly tipping, drug use, criminal damage and sexual behaviour. All these crimes are vehicle related especially after dark.
