PCSO Bowen gets his gate

Pcso Bowen with the gate at Pen y fai

Over the last seven months the small recess area at the end of the lane that gives access to the rugby field at the top of Pen Y Fai Road has become a hotspot for anti social behaviour i.e. fly tipping, drug use, criminal damage and sexual behaviour. All these crimes are vehicle related especially after dark.

Problem solving is a big part of Chris Bowen's role as the PCSO for the Aberkenfig NPT whose ward is Pen Y Fai, so as a police initiative, he suggested a solution to PACT Chairman Kevin Brady and the other panel members. The solution was simple. He asked for a gate to be erected at the front of the lane to prevent all vehicle access but still giving dog walkers and other members of the public freedom to use the field. This was welcomed by the PACT and the Community Council offered to fund the project.

After meeting with other partner agencies; Dunraven estates, Street Scene and the Legal/Regulatory Services for BCBC, issues relating to common land usage were resolved. All were keen to help and the gate has been recently erected.

PCSO Bowen said " This has been a long drawn out project but now the gate has been installed it gives me great confidence knowing PACT does work and this area will be safer, cleaner and much easier to police. It gives the residents of Pen Y Fai some comfort knowing that this area is now vehicle and trouble free day and night."
