Operation Zig Zag
Ffaldau primary school pupils take part in Operation Zig Zag to stop vehicles parking on the schools yellow zig zag lines.
The pupils of FfaldauPrimary School, in Pontycymmer, Bridgend have taken part in an operation aimed at stopping vehicles parking on the schools zig zag lines. As part of the operation, pupils designed posters featuring informative slogans.
The overall winning poster was designed by Year 6 pupil Jenna Crocombe, and featured the slogan "STAYING OFF THE LINES COULD SAVE LIVES". This hard-hitting slogan is now featured on a banner that is displayed on the school building.
In addition the pupils have carried out patrols on the schools zig zag lines, on both Ivor Street, and Albany Road. The pupils were accompanied by Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Laura Rolley, Traffic Warden Caroline Morgan, Traffic Warden Helena Phillips, and the schools Learning Support Assistant Emma Ferguson.
The pupils who wore high visibility jackets, were equipped with informative leaflets that were handed to parents, along with informative air freshners for vehicle owners.
The initiative was instigated when the school council at FfaldauPrimary School wrote a letter to South Wales Police, expressing their concerns about vehicles parking on the zig zag lines, and the dangers of crossing the road.
