Triage centre set up for Six Nations party revellers

A triage unit will be set up in the town centre to treat revellers needing medical attention on Saturday 6th February, Saturday 13th February, Friday 26th February, Saturday 13th March and Saturday 20th March between 10pm and 4am.

Based at the ground floor of Hope Baptist Church on Station Hill St Johns ambulance paramedics will be on hand to give medical attention and treat problems such as cuts and sprains. Police officers will be at the centre to accompany the paramedics who will be able to take crime complaints and lost property reports.

Sgt Angela Bennett says “The Triage centre takes the pressure off the ambulance and Police Service, It is also a resource to people who are feeling vulnerable in the town centre, who may have had a bit too much to drink or if they find themselves on their own.

Bridgend’s street pastors will also be on patrol. Rev Mark Thomas who runs the street pastor scheme says the team are happy to be on board with it. “It’s encouraging to be involved as part of this. It’s recognition of our work”.
