Motorbikes seized in Cornelly

The Neighbourhood Policing Team for Cornelly has been targeting the illegal and irresponsible use of motorcycles in the area - in particular those who are using the machines without insurance - and has seized three offending vehicles in recent days.

Officers have been patrolling and checking the area where the use of the motor bikes is an increasing nuisance for the residents in the locality and to those walking in the open countryside in the area.

PCSO Richard Couch said: “The use of the motor bikes is causing much alarm and distress to residents and those legitimately using the area. As a result the riders of the motor bikes are committing offences under the Road Traffic Act which allow officers to seize the machines and have them destroyed if they are not insured or claimed within seven days.

“Many local residents living in the neighbourhood have supported our actions as the persistent noise and reckless use of the bikes is making their lives a misery. We are grateful to members of the public who have assisted us in ensuring that we continue to keep on top of this problem.

Porthcawl Neighbourhood Inspector Alan James said: “This is an issue which is becoming increasingly widespread. I want to reassure the residents of Cornelly that this matter is being taken very seriously, and I aim to stamp it out before a serious accident occurs.

“I would like to remind people that if they are buying motor bikes for use on common land then they must be insured, if checked and found not to be insured the riders will be prosecuted and the motor bikes can be confiscated and crushed after seven days if a valid insurance certificate is not produced.”
