Derwen House Devils take on charity challenge
Staff from the Community Safety team and Children and Young Peoples Partnership joined together to form Derwen House Devils as part of a charity rounders event on July 24th 2009.
The team were Emma-Louise Maher - Community Safety and Welfare Officer, PCSO Kerry Davies, Gwyn Batten - Crime prevention design advisor, Hannah Richards - Community Safety Partnership Admin, Gaynor Griffiths and Kerry Gilpin - Family Information Service and Kate Wright, Sue Reynolds, Jen Davies and Lynette Turner from the Genesis Team.
More than 300 staff of Bridgend county borough council joined in the event at Newbridge fields raising an impressive £1200 for the Alzheimers society.
The fun was organised by the authoritys head of adult social care Sue Cooper, who is trekking to Patagonia in November to raise money for the charity. She said “I wanted to think of a way for colleagues to get involved in the fundraising and this seemed a perfect idea. I was overwhelmed with the response as teams from across the council put their names forward. In fact we had to organise eight pitches for the tournament to ensure all the teams got to play”.
Staff also helped to raise money by running raffle and cake stands, and the event drew crowds of supporters who cheered on their colleagues.
Coun Nott said “The event was a huge success and it was fantastic to see so many members of staff give up their own time to raise money for such a worthy cause.Deputy leader David Sage and I thoroughly enjoyed taking part – we even scored a rounder or two”.
