On Sunday between 1300 hrs and 1900 hrs Operation Bumble bee took place targeting the anti - social use of cars and motorcycles in Porthcawl.
There have been numerous complaints from local residents to the Police about anti social use of motorbikes generally in Porthcawl, excess noise from hard acceleration and unnecessary revving and inconsiderate riding. The riders responsible for this type of riding are very much in the minority. The majority of bikers visiting Porthcawl are considerate and comply with Road Traffic legislation and welcome.
In addition there is a problem within Porthcawl relating to the anti social use of motor vehicles speeding around the town centre and the promenade. These issues are brought up in local PACT meetings. These motor vehicles are using our roads as a race track.
During the Operation a total of 80 motor vehicles and motorcycles were stopped, checked and examined.
The main theme was to inform and educate drivers and riders about the issues reported in Porthcawl, but also to identify offences relating to documents, Insurance, construction and use offences such as bald tyres etc.
VOSA were also in attendance and assisted by conducting examination of most of the vehicles and bikes.
10 motor vehicles were prohibited from continuing their journey by VOSA because of serious defects in relation to tyres. A major safety issue.
8 fixed penalty notices were issued some involving points on licences for exhaust offences and illegal number plates on both cars and bikes.
All drivers and riders were spoken to about anti social use of cars and bikes in Porthcawl.
The operation is to be repeated again.
