Youngsters team up with Ogmore Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team to tackle speeding vehicles in Blackmill
The Ogmore Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team was today joined by 11 pupils from OgmoreValePrimary School to carry out a vehicle speed reduction exercise, along the A4093, in Blackmill.
The operation involved the youngsters using a hand held speed laser meter. Any vehicles caught exceeding the 30 M.P.H. speed limit were pulled in by the police, given warnings, and the youngsters had the opportunity to speak to the vehicle drivers about the dangers of excessive speed.
The operation represented a partnership approach between the pupils, the Neighbourhood Policing Team, and local business, with transport kindly being provided by GLT Travel of Ogmore Vale.
Ogmore Vale and Blackmill Police Community Support Officer Kim Price, who led the initiative stated “The PACT led speed reduction initiative was carried out in response to community concerns about speeding vehicles throughout the Ogmore Valley, and in particular the A4093, in Blackmill. The pupils worked extremely hard to deliver important messages to motorists about the need for sensible driving, and the severe consequences of speeding, and as a result have helped to make the roads in the valley even safer.”
During the operation 10 motorists were spoken to by the pupils for excessive speed. The school has also taken part in other partner road safety exercises including Road Traffic Collision demonstrations by the Fire Service, and BCBC Road Safety.
Community members with any information on speeding vehicles are urged to contact Bridgend Police Station on 01656 655 555, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
