Wood Watch scheme set up in Pencoed

PCSO Heather Dobbs, Pencoed Town Mayor, Mr Doug John and children involved in the set up of Wood Watch

Neil Lyddon from Pencoed Town Council approached Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Heather Dobbs to become involved in a new initiative called "Wood Watch". This was due to the acts of vandalism, litter and inappropriate use of the woods experienced and reported by Neil over a period of time.

The idea behind “Wood Watch” is to involve Pencoed Neighbourhood Policing Team, Pencoed Town Council and the Community as a whole working together to look after and monitor Coed Iestyn Woods.

In order to successfully advertise “Wood Watch” PCSO Heather Dobbs contacted two local schools, namely Croesty Primary and Pencoed Junior. Both schools were asked if they would like to be involved in a competition. Croesty pupils would design a poster and Pencoed pupils would design a logo to advertise “Wood Watch” in the local community. Carys Rees, aged ten, from Croesty designed the winning poster, whilst Ella Roberts, aged nine, won the logo competition.

PCSO Heather Dobbs arranged for Pencoed Town Mayor, Mr Doug John, to present the children with prizes consisting of pens, pencils and maths sets, which were generously donated by Mr Warburton of Busy Office Solutions in the village.
