Representatives from partner organisations with the plaque

On the 12th of March, Linda Whittaker, Director of Housing for the Welsh Assembly Government, officially opened the Vesta Project in Bridgend. The Vesta Project is a partnership between the Wallich Clifford Community, Bridgend County Borough Council, Bridgend Local Health Board, and United Welsh Housing Association.

The project provides accommodation and support to homeless and potentially homeless men and women aged 18+ who are ex-drug users and who may have a history of offending. Clients will have undergone a period of detoxification, or followed a detoxification programme and must wish to be substance free.

Five bed spaces are provided in shared accommodation, where clients have their own self contained flat comprising of a living room/kitchen, bed room, and bathroom but also share a communal living space. This model of accommodation gives clients privacy and independence, but the communal area helps to ensure that no one becomes isolated or lonely.

In addition to accommodation, the project offers a structure Personal Development Programme that assists clients’ move towards resettlement, independent living and provides alternatives to previous negative lifestyles and experiences.

Clients and staff jointly devise a programme of personal development activities including life skills training, volunteer work for other charities and visits to local businesses to give them an insight into the range of employment opportunities available.

The Vesta Project operates a referral system and does not accept self-referrals. For more information or to obtain a referral form please contact the Project Manager, Sam Browne, on 01656 663 927.
