The pupils of Tynyrheol Primary School, Llangeinor, have carried out a number of morning and afternoon patrols aimed at stopping vehicles parking on the double yellow lines (outside of the school, along Heol Llangeinor). The pupils were accompanied by their Neighbourhood Policing Team PCSO Laura Reynolds, PCSO Dave Wilkinson, and PCSO Gareth Evans, along with traffic wardens.

As part of the double yellow lines patrol operation, the children wore high visibility jackets, and created a giant banner featuring the slogan “THINK BEFORE YOU PARK – If you park on a double yellow line, you may get a fine”. The school organised a competition, and the winning slogan featured on the banner was the work of Class 3 pupil Sophie Bannister. The banner was, and will continue to be displayed on the school railings, where it can be clearly seen by drivers, and the Pontycymmer / Llangeinor community.

Police Community Support Officer Laura Reynolds stated “The road safety project involved the entire school, and has raised awareness of road safety issues, among pupils, parents, and the wider community. It’s simply not acceptable for vehicles to park on the double yellow lines, and the Neighbourhood Policing Team will be conducting regular patrols along Heol Llangeinor, to ensure no vehicles are parked illegally.”

PCSO Dave Wilkinson stated “The pupils have worked hard on this road safety project, and have been very keen to inform both motorists and parents, about the dangers illegal parking can cause. During the patrols, it was encouraging to see drivers taking notice of the banner and patrol, and parking elsewhere.”

As a reward for the pupil’s hard work on making their school road safer, a visit has been arranged for April, to the SouthWalesPoliceMuseum, at Police Headquarters, Bridgend.
