RUBGY stars The Ospreys have come up trumps once again in helping young people keep safe within Ospreylia.

The region has joined forces with project sponsors Npower renewables and South Wales Community Safety Partnerships to produce an Ospreys version of the popular trump cards game.

Some 43 colour cards have been produced as well as a giant A1 poster featuring Osprey squad photos, players’ statistics and key community safety messages.

They cover topics including personal safety, the dangers of alcohol and drugs, bullying and more.

Once young Ospreys fans have collected the cards they will be able to place them on the chart as well as play the Npower renewables Osprey Safety Trumps game. Whilst doing so it is hoped that young fans will take in important information and advice that will keep themselves, friends, family and their communities safe.

Osprey’s coach Lynn Jones said: “I and the players are delighted to be involved in this project once again. It is a fantastic way for players to engage with local youngsters to deliver community safety messages and promote The Ospreys throughout the region.”

Npower Strategic Development Manager Sara Alan-Smith said: “Npower is proud to be the sponsors of this project that we think is great for Osprey’s fans.

“Npower believes that through collecting these cards young people will numerous important messages that could one day save their lives.”

The Npower Trump Card Series games follows on from three previously successful joint ventures between Ospreys and community safety partnerships, which included a wall chart and club stickers for 2004/2005.

John Davies said “ This is an excellent example of sharing resources and to communicate how partners are ‘kicking crime to touch’, tackling anti-social behaviour and environmental issues and making our communities safer places in which to live, work and play”.

Safer Swansea Community Development Officer Paul Evans said: “The Safer Swansea Partnership is very pleased with the success of previous campaigns. We have further developed the concept with neighbouring partnerships to create a game that allows us to communicate our safety messages to young people in an appealing way

“While overall crime in Swansea has been reduced by 23 per cent, we still need to do all we can to ensure our future generation is equipped to make Swansea and surrounding areas even safer.”

Npower Player Trump Cards are free and available inside the Liberty Stadium an hour before each game, as well as via Osprey community visits.

Each child is allowed a maximum of five trump cards per match.
