The Ogmore Valley Neighbourhood Policing team has carried out an operation to tackle vehicle related crime, resulting in over 100 Positive actions
The Ogmore Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team has carried out Operation Casper, to tackle vehicle related crime in Ogmore Vale, Nantymoel, and Blackmill.
The operation was intelligence led utilising information received from community members, as a result of an earlier media appeal for information made by the Ogmore, and Garw Valley Neighbourhood Policing Teams.
As a result of Operation Casper, 1 male person was arrested for drink driving, 1 male person was issued with an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO), 1 vehicle was seized, 3 Endorsable Fixed Penalty Notices were issued (to include a £60 fine and 3 driving license penalty points), 3 Non Endorsable Fixed Penalty Notices (to include £30 fine), and 3 Road Tax Notifications were made to the DVLA.
In addition 75 person and vehicle stops checks were conducted, along with a further 16 drivers being requested to produce their driving documents at a police station.
Acting Police Sergeant Mark Davies, who led Operation Casper, stated “The operation involved high visibility patrols throughout the roads, and housing estates within the OgmoreValley, utilising Neighbourhood Beat Officers, Police Community Support Officers, and Special Constables. These intelligence led patrols resulted in the arrest of 1 male person, and 1 vehicle was seized. Furthermore the operation resulted in 75 person and vehicle checks being conducted, representing a focus on both community reassurance, and enforcement.”
The operation also included educational aspects, with officers engaging with community members, and motorists, to pass on crime prevention and road safety advice, including highlighting the dangers of excessive vehicle speed, information on Road Traffic Collisions (RTC), and to carry out a number of vehicle safety inspections.
Acting Police Sergeant Mark Davies continues “The operation delivered a clear message that the Neighbourhood Policing Team simply will not tolerate vehicle related crime. We will continue to work closely with our community members to prevent vehicle crime, and will take positive action against any such offenders, with operations being ongoing. The Neighbourhood Policing Team expresses their thanks to community members for their continued support.”
Bridgend Divisional Commander, Superintendent Tim Jones stated “I urge our communities to take sensible precautions towards the prevention of vehicle related crime. The operation shows the community wide approach to making our streets even safer, and that information received from community members will be acted upon, and can, and will continue to make a positive impact, making Bridgend an extremely uncomfortable place for criminals.”
