Targeting Scrambler Annoyance in Bridgend

Neighbourhood Policing Teams have joined up with Bridgend County Borough Council to carry out a PACT Led operation named Sertina to target off road bike annoyance in Bridgend

The Bridgend Neighbourhood Policing Team, together with the council have carried out a PACT led operation to tackle off road bike annoyance, within the locality of Bryntirion Comprehensive School, Bryntirion Fields, and Cefn Glas Road, Bridgend. The operation named Sertina, involved high visibility patrols by the Neighbourhood Policing Team, the Off Road Motorcycle Team, and Bridgend County Borough Council Technical Officer Ceri Davies, and Environmental Health Officer Helen Williams.

Bridgend Neighbourhood Beat Officer PC Darren Morris, who led operation Sertina, stated “The operation was carried out in direct response to the concerns of our community, with off road bike annoyance being identified as a priority for partnership action in recent Bryntirion and Cefn Glas PACT meetings.”

The weekend operation resulted in 6 Section 59 First Warning Notices being issued, as officers carried out a number of intelligence led patrols. In addition 1 male person was arrested for driving whilst being disqualified.

PC Darren Morris continues “These high visibility operations will be continuing, and any offending persons will receive a warning, or if warned previously, will have their off road bike seized. The Neighbourhood Policing Team and our partners will continue to work collectively with community members to deter off road offences in the first instance, and take positive action when required.”

In addition the Garw Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team issued 3 Section 59 First Warning Notices to off road bikers in Blaengarw.

South Wales Police urges community members with any information on scrambler annoyance and motorbike related anti social behaviour, to inform local officers on the beat, via PACT Meetings, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, or to contact Bridgend Police Station on 01656 655555.
