Targeting illegal vehicle trading in Porthcawl
A joint operation to tackle illegal vehicle trading has been carried at a number of locations in Bridgend County Borough. Among the areas targeted was the Esplanade and Sea Front at Porthcawl. The operation involved officers from Bridgend County Borough Council Trading Standards Service, Neighbourhood Policing Officers, and Vehicle Examiners from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).
The operation was part of an intelligence led vehicle safety survey, and involved the inspection of road side vehicles offered for sale, to ensure the vehicles were in a safe condition, had road tax, and insurance, and ensuring any traders involved were operating legally.
Senior Fair Trading Officer Peter Orpin, stated "This multi agency operation directly targeted vehicles offered for sale along the Porthcawl Sea Front, with the objective of ensuring that the vehicles for sale are safe, and that traders are not leading the public to believe they may be buying the car from a private individual."
"As a result of the operation a number of vehicles were checked, and all were found to be taxed, and have appropriate insurance. In addition all the vehicles were inspected by Vehicle Examiners from VOSA and were found to be in an acceptable condition for sale."
Porthcawl Neighbourhood Beat Officer Andrew Purser, stated "The issue of illegal vehicle trading has been identified as a priority for partnership action, in multiple Porthcawl PACT meetings. The Porthcawl Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to work collectively with our community partners, to deter illegal vehicle trading, and as required take positive action."
