South Wales Police Launch Student Surgery for Pencoed Pupils
South Wales Police officers went back to school this week, launching a new ‘Student Surgery’ for pupils at Pencoed Comprehensive School.
Following the success of local PACT meetings, pupils at Pencoed Comprehensive were invited to get their thinking caps on for their very own ‘PACT’ style student surgery, where they have the chance to voice their concerns about issues affecting the local community. Students are also encouraged to have their say on the use of funding for improvements in the area.
The surgery was set up by PCSO’s Meurig Coleman and Lauren Dillon of the Bridgend Neighbourhood Policing Team, who will be holding the surgery every Wednesday lunchtime in the school reception area. All pupils are welcome to visit the officers and any concerns will be treated confidentially.
Sergeant Angela Bennett of South Wales Police’s Bridgend sector said: “PACT meetings are a great platform for adults to discuss community issues but young people make up a large part of the Pencoed area too, so it’s important they have the same opportunity to contribute at such forums.
“We need young people to come forward and share their experiences and ideas so that we can work towards making Pencoed a safer and happier community. The student surgery in Pencoed Comprehensive is an ideal way to facilitate this. We are always looking for new ways to engage with youngsters and the community. Surgeries, coffee mornings and Youth PACTs held by the PCSOs are proving very successful in achieving this.”
The next PACT meeting for Pencoed residents will be held at the Miners’ Welfare Hall, Heol y Groes at 7:30pm on Wednesday March 18th.
