South Wales Police and BCBC enforcement officer carry out operation to target dog fouling and Litter in Maesteg
The Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Team and Bridgend County Borough Council have carried out a PACT – led operation to target dog fouling and litter incidents, throughout Maesteg.
The operation was carried out by PCSO Jude Jones, and Enforcement Officer Marshall Greer, in response to community concerns that have been raised during recent Cwmfelin and Llangynwyd PACT meetings, where dog fouling and unaccompanied dogs were identified as priorities for partnership action.
As part of the operation high visibility foot patrols were conducted around the Llangynwyd and Cwmfelin Sports Field, Heol Cynwyd, Celtic Park, Maesteg Welfare Park, and the Oakwood Estate, with the aim of raising community awareness towards the problem, along with providing a deterrent to offences being committed.
PCSO Jude Jones stated “The PACT led operation was put together in direct response to the concerns of Maesteg community members, who decided upon the issue as a priority for partnership action. It’s an example of partnership working between the police and the borough council to improve the quality of life for the entire Maesteg community, helping ensure that the streets and parks remain free of dog foul and litter.”
Enforcement Officer Marshall Greer stated “The operation included interactions with dog owners throughout Maesteg to raise awareness of the problems of dog fouling, unaccompanied dogs, and litter. Both awareness raising and enforcement patrols will be ongoing throughout Maesteg in the coming weeks, and any offenders will be issued with £75 fixed penalty notices.”
During the operation a number of dog owners were engaged with during foot patrols, dog foul collection bags were handed out, and the dog warden was informed about 2 unaccompanied dogs.
