Children from Sarn Nursery School, Bridgend, have taken part in a Walk to School project, as part of the eco schools programme, with the aim of keeping fit, and helping the natural environment.

As part of the project, the children were encouraged to walk to school, instead of using polluting cars.

The children were also accompanied during their walk, by members of the Aberkenfig Neighbourhood Policing Team.

5 children were selected as making a best effort towards walking to school, and have received cinema tickets, which were kindly donated by the Odeon Cinema, at McArthur Glen Shopping Outlet, Bridgend. The winners who will soon be watching a film were Hollie Morgan, Holly Evans, Caitlyn Ralph, and Lauren Byrne (all aged 3), and Dani Thomas (aged 4).

Sarn Nursery School Headteacher, Ms Lesley Evatt, stated "The walk to school project was carried out as part of the eco schools programme, which provides exercise for the children and benefits to the environment. In addition the project has also raised the children's understanding of road safety. The children enjoyed taking part, and were excited to be accompanied by local police officers."

Aberkenfig Neighbourhood Officer, Police Constable Bethan Jones, stated "It's great to see such young children taking responsibility for the natural environment, and actively making a contribution to help protect the environment. I'm sure the lucky winners will enjoy their prizes of cinema tickets."

PC Bethan Jones continues "It was a pleasure to accompany the children on the walk to school project, which has also importantly helped to keep them all fit and healthy, through walking. It's great to work with both the Sarn Nursery children, and staff, whom we see regularly during our beat foot patrols."
