Royal Welsh Regiment - Freedom of the Bridgend Borough Parade

Royal Welsh Regiment led by the Regimental Goat Mascot and the band

On the morning of Saturday, 30th August, 2008, the 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh received the Freedom of Bridgend which included a presentation outside the Civic Offices and a march through the Town Centre, to the Cenotaph and then back to Bridgend Recreation Centre for a Civic Reception.

Divisional Commander Superintendent Tim Jones attended the Civic Office Ceremony along with Civil Dignitaries including the Mayor, and it was here that the Regiment received the Freedom of Bridgend County Borough. After this, the parade consisting of the band and serving soldiers, veterans and cadets marched through Bridgend Town Centre.

Inspector Alan James, Bridgend Sector Inspector, was in overall command of Operation Terrestrial and was assisted by members of the Special Constabulary, Traffic Wardens and Bridgend Sector PCSOs.

Inspector James arranged for the route to be walked and checked for any obstructions or potential hazards for the parade which was led by the Regimental Goat Mascot and the Band.

Crowds lined the streets to support the Royal Welsh Regiment and thankfully the weather for once remained dry and sunny.
