Education/awareness raising

Groups raise awareness of the importance of the environment and the problems caused by fly-tipping in a number of ways e.g. informal talks as they undertake activities, project newsletters, press releases and manning project display boards.

Clean-ups

All groups who get involved with Pride in our Communities undertake clean-ups of their locality to improve its aesthetic appearance. Fly-tipped waste and litter is removed from selected areas by the community and disposed of by the initiative partners.

Preventative barriers

In order to prevent further fly-tipping, the project endeavours to install barriers where possible. These vary from blockstone and gates to fences and prickly hedges.

Waste amnesties

In an attempt to stop waste getting fly-tipped in the first instance, a number of waste amnesties have been organised to enable residents to dispose of their waste correctly. These involve free collections by the initiative partners on arranged days.

Environmental improvement projects

Along with clean ups and litter picks some groups carry our other improvement works e.g. removing overgrown vegetation to improve access, creating garden/nature reserves to enhance their area.
