Police appeal to residents to secure their property

PCSO Westlake, PCSO Johns, PS Haggerty, PCSO Hillman and PCSO

If you leave your doors or windows unlocked you could soon receive an early morning wake up call from Police officers. Thieves have been breaking into homes in the Maesteg area, gaining entry through unlocked doors and windows.

Police are distributing leaflets to householders leaving their homes vulnerable to thieves. Operation Olympus is running from 5th June to 16th July. The leaflets contain information about crime reduction, the handy van scheme and the vulnerable vehicle scheme.

Police are appealing for people to make a last minute security check at night to ensure their home is secure.

Anyone wanting crime prevention advice can arrange a visit with Crime prevention officers PC Gwyn Batten on 01656 679514 or PC Lisa Mathews on 01656 678558.

Supt Jones said “Check your windows and doors everynight. Three recent burglaries have been through insecure homes, and this will get worse during the summer months. From my point of view it’s lovely to work in a division where people have a community but unfortunately an unscrupulous few are capitalising on peoples trust and neighbourhood safety".
