Ospreys outside half Matthew Jones teamed up with the Caerau Neighbourhood Policing Team to visit the rugby team at BlaencaerauJuniorSchool, in Caerau, for a presentation of the school’s new rugby kit. The new kit was arranged by Caerau Neighbourhood Beat Officer PC Steve Bowen, with the help of sponsorship from community partner BAVO (Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations), Al’s Pizza (Commercial Street, Maesteg), and the shirts were supplied by Gwyn Richards Sports (Talbot Street, Maesteg).

The Blaencaerau Junior School rugby team proudly wore their new ‘Ospreys’ style shirts for a squad photograph, that included the schools teachers, Ospreys star Matthew Jones, and Caerau Neighbourhood Beat Officers PC Steve Bowen, and PC Mark Hunter.

To celebrate the new rugby kit, Mathew Jones also presented the school with an autographed rugby ball, featuring the entire current Ospreys squad.

BlaencaerauJuniorSchool scrum half, and team captain, James Jarvis stated “The new rugby kits are awesome, and are much better than our old kit. I think the new kit will make us play like the Ospreys, and will definitely help us win games. It was great to wear our new kits alongside Mathew Jones, and PC Bowen. The team is very proud, and I feel like my favourite player Shane Williams.”

Matthew Jones stated “It’s great to visit the pupils of BlaencaerauJuniorSchool again, with me being a local Maesteg boy. It’s brilliant to see the school team having such a professional looking kit, which represents a collective community approach to enhancing the school and rugby experience of the squad, as they take to the field. It’s a great example of the friendly nature of the valleys communities.”

The visit of Matthew Jones further enhances the school’s links with the Ospreys, as the Caerau Neighbourhood Policing Team have taken pupils to watch matches at the Liberty Stadium, and have arranged training sessions during the last year.

PC Steve Bowen, who is also one of the school’s Governor’s, stated “It was great to welcome Ospreys star player Matthew Jones back to the school, for the presentation of their new rugby kit, which were proudly worn by the pupils. I am confident the new kit will bring the best out of the team, and will complement the school’s moto of Bringing Out The Best In Everyone.”

PC Steve Bowen continues “The new kit represents further active engagement between the school, the Neighbourhood Policing Team, and our community partners. I would like to thank our community partners for their assistance in enhancing the sporting experience of the pupils.”

Community Partners will be holding the next Caerau PACT meeting on Tuesday 30th January 2007, at the YouthWorksBuildingCaerauPark, commencing at 18:00.

Community members are urged to attend the PACT meeting, to identify priorities for partnership action.
