Operation Jargon-Less Talk More Action

The Garw policing teams in conjunction with CCTV have taken tough action on a repeat group of troublemakers at the square in Pontycymer.

Being a PACT priority, the behaviour of the youths had been watched for a while, and policed successfully by the Neighbourhood Policing Team through a balanced amount of respect. However, a few members of the group took their behaviour to the next level over the past few weeks and the residents of Pontycymer have had enough.

Action was taken due to the behaviour becoming unacceptable, and in the first five days four arrests were made to youths between the ages of 13-18. One female and three males were arrested and appropriate action is being taken.

Sgt Chris Truscott wants to make sure that the message that they are sending to the youths is one of equal respect, as the policing team have no issue with the youths being on the square, as long as their behaviour remains at an acceptable level and there is complete respect for the community. The camera above the square is there for a reason, and the CCTV controllers have agreed to increase their viewing of the square to give backup to patrolling officers, and also offer reassurance to the community.

Action will be taken again however if behaviour escalates and is deemed to be anti-social.
