Local Bobby nominated for top award
‘F’ divisions’ very own PC Steve Bowen has recently been nominated for the Jane’s Police Review Community Police Officer of the year award. Established as a national event in 1992, its aims are to promote a positive side of police work. Officers are nominated for the award by their forces and judged on their personal skills, local initiatives to combat crime and provide excellent working relationships with their communities.
This is a great accolade for PC Bowen, who already has a force community police officer award under his belt. It truly reflects the work that he and his colleagues do in the Maesteg Valley, including drug operations, school and public transport initiatives, and even ‘adopt a bus shelter’ schemes to prevent damage to local bus shelters.
Such examples of PC Bowen’s work are the Christmas events he plans, including a best decorated house competition. He has also implemented football and rugby sessions at two junior schools in the area, securing funding for kits from the Ospreys rugby club and taking the children to watch training sessions for both the Ospreys and Swansea City FC. PC Bowen is extremely proud of the community he serves and is always ready to challenge peoples perceptions of Caerau.
He has also been selected to represent the South Wales Police force at the national Remembrance Day parade in London, and will march with the war veterans to the cenotaph on Whitehall. The award ceremony will be taking place in London on the 22nd of November.
