Crime Prevention Quiz

Photo of Deputy Mayor Cleoni Westward and pupils from Ogmore comprehensive school

The Bridgend heat of the South Wales Police Crime Prevention quiz was held on Thursday the 29th November, 2007. The Odeon Cinema again offered to provide the venue and were excellent hosts.

Chief Inspector Simon Belcher opened the competition, which was attended by teams from secondary schools throughout the borough.

The competition was a closely fought battle with the lead changing hands throughout six tough rounds.

The competitors answered questions on drugs, anti-social behaviour, personal safety and ages in law as well as a general knowledge and observation round.

St Clare’s convent school was just pipped to the post by the eventual winners Ogmore comprehensive school. Mr Cornelius head of PSHE at Ogmore admitted he was delighted by the result but glad he wasn’t a team member, as his team probably knew more about crime prevention than most adults.

The guest of honour Mrs Cleone Westwood, the deputy Mayor. There was praise for the pupils for their efforts and the deputy Mayor wished them well in the next round where they will be in competition with schools from the rest of the South Wales Police area.

PCs Chris Warlow, Sarah Morgan and John Stewart also commended all the teams for their sporting behaviour and the level of knowledge. Good luck to Ogmore who are now representing the county against schools from as far a field as Swansea, Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil.
