Cardiff Devil Skate Stars Dazzle Youths on Maesteg NPT Trip

Maesteg NPT and local children with Cardiff Devil mascot Lucy Fur

Youths from the Maesteg and Bridgend area enjoyed a night of devilish delight when they went to see the Cardiff Devils ice hockey team battle the Hull Stingrays on Sunday 1st February 2009.

The trip, organised by Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Team, saw two groups of youths visit the Cardiff Bay Ice Arena in a partnership initiative with the Community First programme team in Caerau and the Every Link Counts charity.

Every Link Counts is an organisation dedicated to supporting young people with learning difficulties, so members were not only treated to an exciting live hockey match, but were also given the chance to socially interact with other youths in the community.

As soon as the party arrived at the rink, the youths were welcomed by Cardiff Devil mascot Lucy Fur (Lucifer – get it?) and went on to be entertained by the high speed action of the match and booming party tunes. Everyone agreed that the highlight of the night though was when the players threw off their gloves to meet and greet the youths.

Unfortunately the Devils were pipped to the post when the Stingrays scored late on to win the game at 2-1, but it didn’t stop the youths becoming immediate Devil supporters! None of the youths had ever been to a hockey game before, but it looks like the Devils will have a new following from now on.
