Alleygates in Bridgend Town Centre

The alleygates

Alley gates have been installed in two recess areas in Elder Lane, Bridgend Town Centre. The funding was provided by the Community Safety Partnership and will be maintained by the Physical Regeneration Team of BCBC

The planning and implementation was conducted by Emma-Louise Maher; Community Safety and Welfare Officer and Jonathan Hughes; Regeneration Projects Officer.

The alleygates

It follows the joint operation that was conducted through the Town Centre following Operation Hutton in 2007, whereby South Wales Police, BCBC and The Probation Service’s Visible Unpaid Work made improvements with quick hits such as graffiti removal and longer solutions such as alley gates.

Local businesses were consulted with at length and were overjoyed that the gates would prevent the anti-social behaviour, shoplifting, substance misuse and other activity which left businesses with unsightly and hazardous waste, making it unpleasant and fearful to use the rear doors to their premises at the thought of what they would next encounter. All businesses that have access to the gates are fully on board and have signed an agreement to use the gates for their original purpose, ensuring that they are kept locked at all times and report any damage or improper use.
