All Shook up

Pcso Leighton Rees in the pink cadalic

During the weekend of 25th, 26th and 27th of September, it was now or never as Porthcawl was all shook up with Elvis fever.

As the whole of the towns guest houses & hotels were fully booked with some people still making the trip down trying to find accommodation, but as they say only fools rush in. The Brentwood even renamed itself the heartbreak hotel for the whole weekend, two of the highlights were Elvis singing with three bears outside Trinity Church sthe song Teddy Bear and Elvis singing off the Grand Pavilion roof on Sunday afternoon.

There were also a lot of American vehicles on show and no rubbernecking, the atmosphere was superb and even though lots of alcohol was consumed, and Elvis tributes played out into the night, no one would have been lonesome and it went without incident. No one had suspicious minds; there was Elvis tributes in practically every pub with a Swedish Elvis performing in the Swan Inn Nottage.

During the weekend the nighbourhood policing team spent a lot of time on foot and needed our walking boots instead of our blue suede shoes, they met lots of people who were keen to interact have photo's taken with the local police so there wasn't time for a little less conversation.

During the weekend an Elvis fan from Texas who wanted a bit off jailhouse rock and two ladies who travelled all the way from mid Norway just for the festival had a photo taken with four of the Porthcawl neighbourhood policing team and will send it down, hopefully we'll get a copy otherwise it'll be returned to sender and said it would always be on their mind. All in all it was a superb weekend and really enjoyable to be a part of, it just gets better every year and next year there is already plans to get more involved afoot and no we won’t be the devil in disguise.

See you all next year, viva la Porthcawl!
