The Aberkenfig Neighbourhood Policing Team have conducted a number of PACT led operations throughout the month of June, including vehicle speed reduction operations, crime prevention activities, and an operation to target anti social behaviour.

Officers were joined by pupils from Sarn Nursery School, Tondu Primary School, and Ogmore Comprehensive during a number of speed reduction exercises as part of Operation Constantine, with the pupils using a hand held speed laser meter to monitor vehicle speed.

Neighbourhood Beat Officer PC Mathew Tatchell stated “It was great to get the pupils from our local schools involved in this community enhancing operation, and the high visibility speed laser meter delivered a clear message to drivers that excessive vehicle speed will simply not be tolerated. The PACT led operation focused on reducing vehicle speed on roads throughout Aberkenfig, Sarn, and Tondu, and operations will be ongoing to reinforce the message to drivers to slow down.”

The Neighbourhood Policing Team has also conducted a crime prevention operation named Olympus, with officers looking out for vulnerable vehicles and property. During foot patrols a number of vulnerable vehicles have been identified and their owners have been sent awareness raising letters by the Safer Bridgend Community Safety Partnership. In addition officers have distributed a number of awareness raising footprints to vulnerable properties, to ensure community members properly secure their homes.

Aberkenfig Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant Fiona Haggerty, who led the operation, stated “Community members are urged to make life as difficult as possible for opportunist thieves, by properly securing their cars and homes. Any valuables should be removed from vehicles, and property doors and windows should be appropriately locked.”

In addition anti social behaviour has been identified as a priority for partnership action at multiple PACT meetings, and a number of weekend patrols have been conducted, including Operation Percephone, with officers targeting anti social behaviour hotspots in Aberkenfig, Sarn, and BryngarwCountryPark.

Community members with any information on speeding vehicles, anti social behaviour, or any other crime are urged to contact Bridgend Police Station on 01656 655 555, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Alternatively community members can approach officers on the beat, or inform their Neighbourhood Policing Team via upcoming Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meetings, with meeting dates available on this website by clicking on the PACT Information link.
