Time called on anti-social drinking in Porthcawl
A successful ongoing initiative which is tackling alcohol-related anti-social behaviour is being extended to Porthcawl.
Working in partnership with South Wales Police, Bridgend County Borough Council has already used Designated Public Places Orders to establish alcohol control areas in Bridgend town centre and Pencoed.
A DPPO gives police and other designated community officers the power to confiscate alcohol from anyone who is causing a nuisance in a public place, and to prosecute and fine individuals who refuse to stop drinking in public when requested.
It does not ‘ban’ alcohol from an area, and doesn’t apply to licensed premises such as pubs, clubs, restaurants, and beer gardens.
The Porthcawl scheme will cover all of the sea front from Rest Bay to Newton as well as areas where alcohol-related disorder regularly occurs.
