Specials on patrol in Porthcawl

Special Constable John Pegler monitors traffic speed in Porthcawl

Speeding drivers, defective vehicles and mobile phone use were all targeted as part of National Specials Weekend in Porthcawl.

The operation was carried out by volunteer police officers who gave up their weekend to catch offending drivers in areas where residents have raised concerns through PACT meetings.

National Specials Weekend was a national campaign to celebrate the Special Constabulary and six of the South Wales Police’s 227 volunteers spent Saturday and Sunday working in the Dan y Graig, Fulmer Road and Esplanade areas of the town.
Porthcawl Neighbourhood Inspector Alan James said: “Special Constables play a vital role in helping to protect the public and they do this in their own time.

“The weekend was just one example of the ways our Specials are helping to keep the streets of Porthcawl safe.

“The response we received from the people of Porthcawl to this Operation was excellent. They were very grateful to see such a presence in the town centre and surrounding area.

Among the activities during the weekend 15 fixed penalty notices were issued – four of them endorsable, 12 warning notices and seven defective vehicle notices were issued.
