Road Safety quiz 2011

It was another successful year for the Bridgend Road safety quiz, with many talented youngsters competing for the chance to get to the finals. A new location this year saw the quiz held at the Porthcawl Grand pavilion, allowing those lucky few to take advantage of the location and enjoy an ice cream after the stress of the quiz.

The event ran smoothly due to the hard work of Simon Ladbroke and Gail Calford of BCBC road safety, Pcso Gemma Matthews, John Hughes and Emma Browning of Safer Bridgend who helped as judges and the school liaison officers Chris Warlow, Steve Carpenter and John Stewart who acted as quiz master.

15 schools were chosen to go through to the finals on the 16th of June to compete to be named the winners. Those schools in the finals were: Pencoed Primary, Brackla Primary, Pen-Y-Bont Primary, Maes– Y-Haul Primary, Oldcastle Primary, Llangewydd Junior, Brynmenyn Primary, Cwmfelin Primary, Garth Primary, Caerau Primary, Trelales Primary, Mynydd Cynffig Junior, Nottage Primary, Newton Primary and Ysgol Y Ferch O`r Sger Primary.


The day of the finals saw many excited students, and even more excited supporters descend on a gloriously sunny porthcawl, all eager to win the quiz title. In attendance was the deputy mayor Councillor Marlene Thomas, who was ready to be impressed by the student’s road safety knowledge. After a close competition, the winners were announced.

In 3rd came Maes yr Haul primary.

In 2nd came Oldcastle primary.

Whilst 1st place was awarded to Trelales primary!

Congratulations to the pupils of class 5.


The poster competition run by BCBC was won by the talented children of Oldcastle Primary! So congratulations to them also.

It sets out our long-term strategic vision for integrated, inclusive and cohesive communities and includes an Action Plan that provides the framework for future activities in this area. The Strategy has been developed by Safer Bridgend in partnership with other public, private and voluntary sector bodies represented on the Local Service Board and with involvement of the wider community. We want everyone who lives or works in the County Borough to play their part in achieving our vision.

Your car may be at risk if you don't hide your keys

There has been a recent spate of dwelling burglaries in the borough where burglars are breaking into houses, taking the car keys and stealing the car and other posessions.

Home Fire Safety Checks

South Wales Fire and Rescue Services carries out approximately 6000 Home Fire Safety Checks and fit approximately 12000 smoke alarms in homes throughout the area each year.
