Porthcawl Mermaids Aim For Success

The Mermaids Netball Team

Funding has been secured for a new kit for the Mermaids Netball Team based in Porthcawl with profits confiscated from drug crime which is used to fund worthwhile community projects.

Sharyn Philemon, the PCSO for Porthcawl West Ward which covers Porthcawl Comprehensive School where the teams practice, approached Superintendent Tim Jones for funding for the kit to give the netball team a clear identity as they were simply wearing their own polo shirts and jogging bottoms to games.

The Mermaids, aged between 7 and 12 years, were formed in January 2009 by Coach Danielle Ulberini as part of Porthcawl Athletic and since then they have attracted over 60 members and the team is still growing.

Quote from Danielle Ulberini – ‘’ We would like to say a big thank you to PCSO Sharyn Philemon for her help and support with the funding, the girls now feel they are part of a team and look more professional.’’
