On Tuesday 13th September, the doors to the Glamorgan Muslim Community Association Mosque in Dunraven Street, Aberkenfig were opened to members of the community.

PC Paul Evans from the Bridgend Community Safety Partnership organised this event, which took place during the day for educational school visits and then between 5pm and 9pm for members of the public.

School children were given a guided tour throughout the mosque, where the owners then explained all aspects of their religion and allowed the children to observe their prayers and daily rituals.

The evening then provided all members of the community with the opportunity to look around the mosque, as well as the chance to learn more about the Muslim faith through a presentation which was provided by guest speakers - including the founder of the Ethnic Youth Support Team (EYST).

Refreshments were also provided during the evening by Ashoka Tandoori Restaurant, Nolton Street Bridgend.

As well as this, stalls producing information with regards to Hate Crime were provided by the Community Safety Partnership - an issue which many members of the Muslim faith may often be subjected to. The Valleys Regional Equality Council, Bridgend Coalition of Disabled People, and the local Neighbourhood Policing Team were also on hand to offer individual support to anyone experiencing prejudice and discrimination.

The Open Day provided members of the public with the unique opportunity in which to see inside a mosque and learn more about the lives of members from the Muslim Community. The event was well attended, and the public showed a great interest in the religion.

Overall, the open day was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
