One County, One Community

Community Cohesion logo

Within Bridgend two forums exist to promote community cohesion and equality among the County of Bridgend; the Bridgend Equalities Forum which aims to promote equality and good community cohesion in Bridgend County Borough by building strong and positive relationships between people from different backgrounds, and the Community Cohesion Group.

What is community cohesion? Simply put it is you and people in your community feeling a sense of belonging and unity regardless of differences in gender, race, disability, language, religion, belief, sexual orientation, age or carer status.

The Community Cohesion Group, which is led by the community and administered by the police, is looking for people from all backgrounds to become members of the group to make these forums far more inclusive and representative of the communities that we work with across the borough and to work towards improving community relations and tackling hate crime.

Three events are being held in April where interested members of the public are invited to drop in and gain more information about the Community Cohesion Group, or discuss issues with officers and current members of group which is made up from all communities across the borough, including black minority ethnic, gay/lesbian/bi-sexual and transgender, disabled and older people.

They will take place:

Tuesday 6th April – 2-7pm – Bethlehem Church Life Centre, Cefn Road, Cefn Cribwr, Bridgend, Mid Glam. CF32 0AA

Wednesday 7th April – 2-7pm – Hope Baptist Church, Station Hill, Bridgend, CF31 1EA

Thursday 8th April – 2-7pm – Bettws Life Centre, Bettws Road, Bettws, CF32 8TB

The membership of the Community Cohesion Group is open to individuals who reside or work, either permanently or temporarily, within the geographical area of the county of Bridgend.

Light refreshments will be available.

Free transport can be arranged if required. Please telephone Emma-Louise Maher on 07790 320583 to make necessary arrangements or for further details on any of the planned events.

Bridgend County Borough’s Community Cohesion Strategy for 2011 - 2014

This is Bridgend County Borough’s Community Cohesion Strategy for 2011 - 2014. It sets out our long-term strategic vision for integrated, inclusive and cohesive communities and includes an Action Plan that provides the framework for future activities in this area. The Strategy has been developed by Safer Bridgend in partnership with other public, private and voluntary sector bodies represented on the Local Service Board and with involvement of the wider community. We want everyone who lives or works in the County Borough to play their part in achieving our vision.
