Kenfig nature reserve – scrambler patrol

PCSO Richard Matthews on patrol with Graham Holmes of the Kenfig Nature Reserve.

As a result of recent reports of youth and scrambler annoyance in and around the Ton Kenfig area Neighbourhood PCSOs Richard Matthews and Richard Couch teamed up with Graham Holmes of the Nature Reserve and conducted a high-visibility Land Rover patrol in the area on Saturday (17 April).

A bright day with excellent visibility meant that the officers had a good opportunity to spot anyone out and about on their off road motor cycles.

PCSO Couch said: “We are pleased to report that during our patrol and observations, we did not receive any reports of annoyance nor did we come across anyone disrupting the peace and quiet of the area. However, if anyone has any information with regards to off road motor cycles being used in and around your area, please do not hesitate to contact youR local officers on 101.”

Porthcawl Neighbourhood Inspector Alan James said: “Many local residents have expressed their grave worries about groups of youths driving dangerously on motorcycles and off road bikes in the area riding on footpaths, and causing anti social behaviour. Local residents are extremely concerned that bikes being used in such a manner may lead to a serious accident.

“Throughout the summer we will continue to patrol the area in order to act upon these concerns and, working in conjunction with the police off road motorcycle team we will conduct patrols throughout the community.

“The use of these motorbikes also has a detrimental effect on the landscape. In particular places such as Kenfig Dunes are areas of outstanding natural beauty and contain many rare plants that are being severely damaged by this illegal motorcycling.

“The Neighbourhood policing team will continue to work closely with our partners and members of the public and we will take steps such as the confiscation of bikes causing annoyance, issuing Anti-Social Behaviour Order referrals, education, Fixed Penalty Notices and the prosecution of offenders.”

Inspector James is urging members of the public who know who these motorcyclists are to contact Porthcawl police station on 101.
