Neighbourhood Police officers in Bridgend were able to react swiftly to take steps to stop an illegal party planned for Newbridge Fields earlier this month (10 April).

Officers were alerted to details posted on the social networking website Facebook which publicising the location and time.

A local police officer was able to call on the youth who had posted the blog and advised him of the implications of what he had done, requesting that the youth retract the blog which had been posted out to over 1000 people. A revised statement was added stating that the party had been cancelled and the area would be heavily patrolled by the Police.

Local NPT officers visited all the local shops and super markets and advised them of the planned party and asked them to be vigilant when dealing with any young people coming in to buy alcohol.

Neighbourhood PCSO Chris Freeth said: “Throughout the day and into the evening youngsters began to gather in the area and they were spoken to by NPT officers, advised the party would not be taking place and that anyone causing a disturbance or drinking alcohol will be dealt with appropriately. “

During patrols by NPT officers the local area and shrubbery was searched as it was believed that alcohol had been concealed by the youths as a result of the increased police patrols.

PCSO Freeth said: “Due to the actions taken by the NPT the numbers expected did not materialise and anyone who did turn up was spoken to and advised to move on. A large quantity of alcohol was seized and no disturbances were recorded linked to this event.

“This was a successful intervention by South Wales Police for what could have resulted in a major disturbance for local residents and businesses.”
