As part of the preparations for Hallowe’en and Guy Fawkes Night South Wales Police and its partners launched Operation Bang, a successful community safety campaign aimed at reducing anti social behaviour, providing high visibility public reassurance and educating young people about the dangers of fireworks and the consequences of irresponsible and unruly conduct.

Together with its partners within Safer Bridgend the Ogmore Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team in collaboration with Nantymoel Boys and Girls Club organised their very own Hallowe’en Party on Saturday 31st October which was aimed at reducing youth annoyance and anti social behaviour incidents in the area.

Beat Manager PC Gemma Tibbott said: “The Hallowe’en party held at the Nantymoel Boys and Girls club was a great success. Not only did everyone have a wonderful time but anti social behaviour and youth annoyance incidents within the Ogmore Valley were reduced dramatically with only one incident being reported on the night.

“The aim of the party was to ensure that young people living in the Ogmore Valley were entertained in a safe and controlled environment, whilst delivering a clear message that anti social behaviour would not be tolerated within the valley.”

The Nantymoel Boys and Girls Club with the support of Byron and Enid Locke, local DJ Carl Stolzenburg and the Ogmore Valley NPT which included PC Tibbott, Police Volunteer, Arabella Rees, Special Constable Samantha Jones and PCSO Gareth Evans, held two Halloween parties on the night, a ‘Pumpkin Party’ for those aged up to 13 years of age and a ‘Devils Disco’ held for those young persons aged 14 – 17 years of age, which met the needs of all age groups within the community.

PC Tibbott added: ‘The Halloween party finished at 10.00pm coinciding with the last public bus travelling from Nantymoel back down the valley. Our intention was to remove all the young people from the streets by that time in order to reduce the number of anti-social behaviour and youth annoyance incidents.’

The Ogmore Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team and the Nantymoel Boys and Girls Club would like to thank the kind generosity and donations of the following local businesses for making the event such a great success:

Safer Bridgend Partnership; Howard Bayliss of Baylisses Recovery LTD; Sainsbury’s, The Derwen, Bridgend; Pound Shop and Clinton Cards, Bridgend; A Bit Of A Do, Nantymoel; Local DJ Carl Stolzenburg and 24’7 Careers Network, Tondu Industrial Estate.

All money raised during the evening will be donated to the Nantymoel Boys and Girls Club, which will assist the club to run further events and activities for local young people living in the Ogmore Valley.
