Dominos pizza help serve up feast of football

Not in my neighbourhood week logo

The Neighbourhood Policing Team for the Oldcastle ward in Bridgend has got a slice of the action thanks to the local Dominos Pizza which has agreed to sponsor a mini football tournament for the area which is run in conjunction with the Home Office backed Not in My Neighbourhood Week.

The key objective of this national initiative is to inform local people about the action taking place in their area to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and to make their communities safer.

This year the week will run from 2nd to 6th November and South Wales Police and its partner agencies will be engaging in activities that would help stop crime and break down barriers in communities between the Police.
PC Rea David and PCSC Rob Newman are the community officers for the Oldcastle ward which covers Heol Dwyrain and Ffordd Ganol. It is an area which has recently suffered from a high level of anti-social behaviour by young people.

PC David said: “We are very grateful to Dominos Pizza which has kindly agreed to support the event both by providing trophies for the competition as well as their popular pizzas which will be most welcome by all taking part.”

PCSO Newman added: “Within the area there is a council-owned ball court which is under used and a recurring complaint from residents is that youths play football all over the estate but never in this court.
“On November 6th from 4.30pm to 6.00pm I will be running a mini football tournament for the area to be run in conjunction with Not in My Neighbourhood Week.

“I am hoping to attract most of the youngsters from the estate and surrounding area. Hopefully I will have at least 20 participants which can be split into teams of five plus a Neighbourhood Police team of five of six officers. It would be great if we could get even more youths involved!”

Every month a PACT meeting is held for the Oldcastle ward which involves members of the public telling Police, council and other partner agencies what their concerns are in the community they live.
“The priority for the next two months in the Oldcastle ward is anti social behaviour at Heol Dwyrain and Ffordd Ganol, so this initiative will also link in with resolving these issues,” said PCSO Newman.
