Celebration of youth at Wildmill
The young people of Wildmill in Bridgend who attend their local Youth Works held a night of celebration on Monday (2 November) in front of the Mayor of Bridgend County Borough Council, Cllr Jeff Tildesley and Dr Brian Gibbons AM, Minister for Social Justice and Local Government in the Welsh Assembly Government.
Under the guidance of Senior Youth Worker Debbie Bryn the youth group, which celebrates its eighth anniversary next year, has become a successful attraction for the youngsters of the estate.
Monday’s event was staged in conjunction with the South Wales Police Not in my Neighbourhood Week and featured performances from many of the youngsters who regularly attend. These included singing, dancing and several of the young people addressed the audience, telling them what they enjoyed about Youth Works and what benefits they get from participation.
The evening was rounded off with a quiz, prepared by PC Kelly Thomas of the Neighbourhood Policing Team with prizes of family tickets to the Guy Fawkes Night firework display at the Brewery Field.
The quiz focussed upon the story behind Guy Fawkes as well as important fireworks safety tips.
PC Thomas said: “Youth Works in Wildmill is going from strength to strength and has become an important date in the diary of many of the young people in the community. This is down to the hard work and commitment of the Youth Workers whose enthusiasm for what they do is infectious and has rubbed off on all of those who come along.”
Cllr Tildesley added: “This has been a wonderful celebration of the success of this project in Wildmill. Everyone has worked extremely hard to put on a wonderful night. Youth Works has grown into a vibrant and successful community youth club and an integral part of the community.”
