Bridgend business pact celebrates successful first year

The Business PACT initiative in Bridgend has held its first Annual General Meeting and has been able to look back on a very successful first year of operation.

The Business PACT initiative in Bridgend has held its first Annual General Meeting and has been able to look back on a very successful first year of operation.

The organisation already boasts a membership of 42 businesses in the Bridgend area - 41 businesses in Bridgend Town Centre and one business located at Picton Court Retail Park. The current membership is made up of 41 Shops and one pub/club.

Business PACT coordinator, PCSO Jenny Meadows, said: “The first year of Business PACT in Bridgend has been a great success and we are planning to expand throughout the area.

“Negotiations will be taking place soon for the many pubs and clubs in the town to come on board. This joint partnership will reinforce the commitment to reduce criminal activity, reduce crime loss, protect staff from physical violence and generate a safe place to work, shop and visit.

“During the first year Business PACT has been welcomed by many businesses in the town centre. This is despite being in the middle of a credit crunch.

“It is hoped the coming 12 months will see further expansion throughout the town centre and other retail areas where we can continue to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. In the New Year Business PACT will be considering expanding to the Pines.”

The Annual Report reveals that offenders against Business PACT members received a range of sentences from police and courts.

12 offenders received prison sentences

One offender received a suspended sentence

11 offenders received community orders

Seven offenders received fixed penalty notices

Ten offenders received fines

Six offenders received cautions or reprimands

22 ASBO referrals were made where the offender’s details were known and submitted to the Anti-Social Behaviour Unit.

In addition three Exclusion Orders were issued. One of these was subsequently breached and as a result it has been extended for a further 12 months.

PCSO Meadows added: “I would like to take this time to thank the Business PACT board of management for all the time and dedication they have given to ensure the success of the partnership. Without their support and commitment the scheme would not be up and running today.”
