Street Rugby League Final announced
Wales Rugby League, Safer Bridgend, and Community First are proud to host The Street Rugby League Finals Day at The Riverside Hardware Brewery Field in Bridgend on Friday 17th September at 5.30pm.
Street Rugby League has now become an established programme and has been running during the summer months in the Bridgend Area.
Children from Caerau, Nantymoel, Sarn and Wildmill in Bridgend have been getting involved in weekly training sessions and have competed in three festivals during this summer.
The aim of this programme is to reduce anti-social behaviour and to get children involved in physical activity. During the evenings of the training sessions and festival there were no reports of anti-social behaviour in the four areas that took part.
Since its inception in 2009 by Celtic Crusaders, over 100 children both boys and girls and 30 volunteers have been involved, bringing the local communities together.
Friday 17th September sees all the hard work and commitment come to fruition with the inaugural Street Rugby Finals Day. This will for many of the children involved be the first time they would of played on a full pitch, let alone at a major stadium.
Wales Rugby league would like to invite you all to The Riverside Hardware Brewery Field to support your local community, admission is free.
Following the tournament a presentation will take place on the pitch followed by food and refreshments in the function room.
Come along to cheer your team, and give the kids a day to remember.
“For the second year running the street rugby league programme has shown that real reductions in anti-social behaviour can be achieved by introducing young people to positive activities such as this. The Community Safety Partnership is very pleased to be support this programme and hope that it can be extended to other areas in the future. Not only have young people benefited from this programme but there have also been significant benefits for all of those who live in communities the programme operates in. Well done to all those who have engaged in or supported this programme, especially those volunteers who have given up their time to make it happen.”
